IMPORTANT NOTICE

Mandatory Continuing Pharmacy Education (“CPE”) Programme

Pursuant to section 2.2.4 of the Code of Professional Conduct for the Guidance of Registered Pharmacists in Hong Kong (“Code of Conduct”), a registered pharmacist is encouraged to keep abreast of the progress of relevant professional knowledge and skills so as to maintain a high standard of professional competence.

In order to uphold the professionalism for registered pharmacists, the Pharmacy and Poisons Board (“the Board”) had launched the voluntary CPE Programme on 1 June 2024, which had been operating under a voluntary approach up to 31 May 2027. Having considered the necessity of pharmacist professional development, the Board decided that fulfillment of the CPE requirement would be made mandatory through amendments to the Code of Conduct, tentatively taking effect on 1 June 2027. In other words, the mandatory CPE Programme for Registered Pharmacists is anticipated to commence with its first one-year cycle on 1 June 2027.

The Board Secretariat will separately provide further details regarding the mandatory CPE Programme at a later stage and invite you to attend a briefing-cum-consultation session. If you have not enrolled with a CPE Administrator, you are encouraged to do so before the commencement of the first mandatory CPE cycle. This will allow you to familarise yourself with the prevailing voluntary framework, upon which the mandatory CPE Programme will be generally modelled.

Overview

The purpose of the Continuing Pharmacy Education (“CPE”) Programme for registered pharmacists is to encourage pharmacists to keep themselves up-to-date about the current development of professional knowledge and skills in various areas of practice with an aim to upkeep their professional standard at all times. The Postgraduate Pharmacy and Training Development Committee has been appointed by the Pharmacy and Poisons Board to implement the CPE Programme for registered pharmacists.
